  • Overview

    PURPOSE 

    LafargeHolcim's Maintenance Mechanic Journeyman's primary responsibilities of this position are to perform mechanical repairs and to be responsible for the quality of repairs. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. All duties are performed in a work-safe manner; plant safety rules are followed and individual works as a team member.On Call and Overtime will be required as needed.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILTIES 

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Directly responsible for making decisions in shutting down equipment for repairs.
    • Directly responsible for the performance quality and mechanical equipment repairs
    • Responsible for setting bearing clearances.
    • Responsible for the proper use and maintenance of all shop and specialized tools used within the department.
    • Perform work in accord w/plant and MSHA safety rules
    • Perform various duties in difficult positions and hard to access places
    • Plan work assignments to accomplish with maximum efficiency
    • Read, interpret and follow mechanical blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete the job. Prepare mechanical diagrams and sketches when needed.
    • Climb multiple sections of stairs on regular basis
    • Perform duties with little or no supervision
    • Perform housekeeping duties such as clean-up of mechanical shop and job area and those necessary to complete assignments
    • Lubricate all types of bearings, gearboxes, etc.
    • Assist and instruct other mechanics and maintenance personnel on jobs as necessary
    • Dissemble bearings, gearboxes, and other mechanical equipment. Repairs, replaces, cleans, paints and reassembles parts.
    • Service mechanical equipment
    • Inspect equipment and machinery, diagnose faulty operation, and determine proper corrective action, make necessary adjustments, replacements or repairs
    • Routine lifting consists of lifting between 25-100 pounds
    • Will work as a team member making collective decisions as to projects, processes, budgetary considerations, when to lead, when to follow, conflict resolution and any and all circumstances relevant to team building.  Must be willing to make concessions for the overall good of the team and to make growth, knowledge sharing and flexibility standards in the work environment.

     

    Results/Accountabilities 

     

    Safety: 

    • Support the plant management in implementing and monitoring of safety and environmental systems, oversee visitor and contractor safe work practices as needed, participate in a TBS team, perform proper Risk Assessments, and support Safety Audits. Promote safe practices and attitude at all times. 

    Environmental:

    • Report any potential issues with environmental equipment
    • Perform proper maintenance and repair on environmental equipment 

    Quality:

    • Report any potential issues with plant equipment that could negatively effect quality of product being manufactured
    • Perform proper maintenance and repair on plant equipment to ensure that quality product is being manufactured 

    Core Accountabilities:

    • Perform proper inspection and repair on plant equipment
    • Perform tasks in an efficient and cost effective manner

    Qualifications

    Education and Work Experience:

    • High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent.
    • A fully qualified journeyman must complete necessary schooling to earn a mechanical journeyman card or technical degree / certification.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Demonstrated proficiency in the knowledge and skills required for mechanical maintenance at the intermediate level
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently
    • Demonstrated proficieny in Millwright trade skills
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the knowledge and skills required for mechanical equipment maintenance: gas torches and welding, hoists, hand tools, maintenance shop power equipment, hydraulic jacking systems, basic alignment, test equipment, basic hydraulics, pneumatics, safe rigging and hoisting of heavy loads, precision tools – micrometers, levels, etc., bearing heater, hydraulic tools - torque wrenches, hose presses, porta-power equipment.
    • Ability to handle overtime and emergency call outs on nights and weekends.
    • Basic computer skills
    • Successful completion of mechanical apprenticeship program and 8000 hour OJT
    • Proficiency with all of the trade tools used in the plant
    • Must possess the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to use all equipment as outlined in the mechanical progression guidelines

     

    ADA Limitations: Must be able to travel through a cement plant, i.e., walk over obstacles, climb stairs and ladders, lift heavy or awkward parts, wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.). The employee will at times be exposed to extremely hot/cold, dusty, noisy, or dark situations. At times, work will be performed at great heights or in small confined spaces
