  • Overview

    PURPOSE
    The Quarry Supervisor functions as a safety leader and supervisor of Overall Quarry Production Activities to support plant production including, but not limited to, quality, safety, productivity, cost control and maintenance.

     

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Function as a safety leader in the plant and quarry by demonstrating a personal commitment to working safely and ensuring that the plant continues to eliminate work related risks by increased use of hazard recognition techniques; function as a strong advocate and leader in promoting a safe working environment for all employees at the plant; conduct effective monthly safety meetings
    • Supervise the maintenance of the mobile equipment at projected costs or lower.
    • Create work orders, schedule repairs with contractor, order parts and follow up on job completion
    • Schedule major rebuilds and overhauls.
    • Track hours and schedule regular PM’s.
    • Supervise operations of the aggregate plant.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and respond quickly to break downs.
    • Create work request and coordinate with the maintenance department to prioritize and schedule repairs.
    • Daily/weekly production planning and quality checks.
    • Compiles and reports daily production data.
    • Supervise operations of the quarry.
    • Start crew with safety meeting, assign tasks, and ensure proper workplace inspections are completed.
    • Coordinate with drillers and blasters for shot layout and blasts
    • Provide leadership in the daily supervision of quarry operations and personnel
    • Lead operations of the quarry at projected costs or lower
    • Supports the development of the long term mine plan and geological block models
    • Lead quarry team in accomplishing short and long term mining plans
    • Lead quarry team in accomplishing daily scheduling , production goals, waste removal goals, and drilling and blasting goals
    • Maintain high levels of equipment availability by effectively communicating and coordinating production activities with the maintenance department
    • Coordinates daily work assignments for the quarries production operations, blasting, and mobile maintenance crews
    • Ability to troubleshoot operational and equipment maintenance issues critical to the operation
    • Inspects and evaluates work in progress
    • Continuous improvement in quality to meet or exceed quality targets
    • Provide leadership in cross functional team activities
    • Lead quarry team in accomplishing cost reduction and optimization-through continuous improvement in daily operations
    • Performs other duties as required and must possess initiative to accomplish tasks with minimal supervision
    • Ability to work with word processing software such as Microsoft office and other software pertinent to assigned duties
    • Ability to work with others in a dynamic team-based environment
    • Good organizational and problem solving skills

     

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    Works closely with Quality, Production, and Maintenance departments to provide needed materials for different types of product with a focus on maintaining a high quality product.

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
    Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree with 3 years of experience or HS Diploma\GED with 6 years of experience
    Required Work Experience:

    • 3 years quarry / maintenance experience
    • Knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance 
    • Knowledge of primary/secondary crushing, conveying, stacking, and reclaiming systems
    • Ability to resolve day-to-day questions regarding equipment, materials, methods, and procedures needed to complete projects 
    • Ability to synthesize, assess, and interpret technical information and develop effective action plans based on the results
    • Previous experience in the aggregate industry and mobile equipment maintenance 
    • Experience with SAP and Ariba a plus
    • Previous mine operations experience including supervisory or project management experience
    • Knowledge of drilling and blasting a plus

    Travel Requirements: Some travel required

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
    • Self-starting and able to work with minimum supervision with solid decision-making abilities 
    • Solid team player, conducting and participating effectively in meetings; able to gain commitment
    • Must demonstrate effective leadership 
    • Ability to effectively plan mining activities 
    • Ability to have a flexible schedule that could change during peak and off seasons. Also may include nights and/or weekends shifts if needed. 
    • Ability to effectively plan maintenance and aggregate activities 

    Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft office computer experience preferred
