  • Overview

    PURPOSE
    The position of Marine Coordinator is responsible for specific aspects relative to the supply and planning of cement and raw materials by use of U.S. Inland Waterways. The role manages the day to day tactical operations ensuring supply to the plants and terminals. The position ensures product is delivered on time, efficiently, and at the lowest cost possible.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Manages all inland barge supply for inbound and outbound materials for specific plants/terminals. ~6 million tons annually
    • Responsible for Demurrage cost and Demurrage Incentive Program and Debits and Credits System ~3-4 million in demurrage spend 
    • Communicate supply plans and orders with inbound suppliers, multiple barge vendors, marketing, terminal managers, and manufacturing.
    • Responsible for updating, monitoring, and tracking all barge related cost/data
    • Responsible for LafargeHolcim’s internal barge tracking software TowWorks, responsible for upgrades, enhancements, and daily maintenance of the software
    • Manages freight rates, purchase orders, balance dues, vendor payments, procure barge spot rates and other contractual data 
    • Maintains Qlikview software to track all historical barge related data with ability to create reports to identify trends, potential cost savings, and performance
    • Daily Maintenance and distribution of the Short Term Barge Plan, used for planning
    • Monthly Accrual – responsible for ensure that all cost are accounted for and correct
    • Analyze Logistics' financial operating results and determine the root causes of variances from budget
    • Assist in the development of distribution plans
    • Handle all accessorial billing charges – verify if correct and work with NABS and carriers to pay on time
    • Responsible for scheduling and delivering company owned barges to terminals, and setting up Towing Arrangements 
    • Provide input to the weekly regional supply meetings
    • Support creation of the annual budget
    • Prepare materials for the quarterly barge vendor meetings
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    Role works daily with the following areas:

    • Communicate supply plans and orders with inbound suppliers to ensure plants have adequate inventory on hand and in-transit to maintain production.
    • Work daily with multiple barge vendors to ensure empty barges arrive to plants to meet the orders and then deliver to terminals/customers.
    • Works with the Marketing team to discuss pending projects, which could change barge plan/orders.
    • Runs actual sales vs. forecast to look ensure desired inventory levels and maintain supply at all times.
    • Communicates plans terminal managers to optimize efficiency’s with unloading plans and assist in schedules to unload barges.
    • The Marine Coordinator has frequent conversation with Supply Chain group as well as Manufacturing, the role needs to know what the plants plan on producing and compare the barge plan with what the PDP optimization model reports 

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
    Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree
    Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree
    Field of Study Preferred: Logistics
    Required Training/Certifications: Deck Hand Training
    Required Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience preferred
    Travel Requirements: 10-20%
    Required Computer and Software Skills: Microsoft Office and the ability to learn TowWorks (LafargeHolcim custom barge tracking software)
