  • Overview

    Directs the work of shop mechanics and contractors responsible for the hands on diagnosis and repair of a fleet of Mack Trucks and other mobile equipment. Trains staff, schedules work assignments, sets priorities, engages and coaches staff to improve performance, conducts performance evaluations and administers corrective action, if required.



    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • The incumbent is responsible for supervision, safety and training of their direct reports. The incumbent is to design and implement required skills enhancement training for each subordinate through both internal and external training programs. The incumbent is to abide by the union contract and is responsible for first level grievances. The incumbent is to actively promote safe working behaviours.
    • The incumbent will ensure motivation of his group through proper delegation, participation, recognition, and follow up on suggestions and ideas.
    • The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible to ensure that all maintenance activities are carried out in the most effective, efficient and timely manner possible
    • The incumbent will give constructive feedback and coaching as required to maintain a high degree of professionalism within the group.
    • The incumbent must be able to use and understand the computerized maintenance management system (SAP) and have knowledge of the work order tracking system, spare parts catalogue and requisitioning and inventory systems.
    • Work closely with all other disciplines within the plant, dispatch and quality control.
    • Responsible for all mobile equipment maintenance including preventative, predictive, proactive and routine maintenance.
    • Supervise the daily activities of hourly Mobile Maintenance Technicians (MMT).

    • Planning and Scheduling of all work involving direct report MMT and contractors.
    • Maintain an accurate Work Order History.
    • Maintain the Mobile Equipment PM system in SAP.
    • Initiate PM01 Work Orders.
    • Update Job Plans as required.
    • Manage work performance and attendance issues with direct report employees.
    • Be knowledgeable of and work within the Maintenance budget and assist Plant Manager in forecasting actual spending.
    • Work closely with other Maintenance Department and plant staff in planning and scheduling Mobile Equipment maintenance.
    • Attend planning, scheduling and coordination meetings as required.
    • Assist in Mobile Equipment spare parts inventory control.
    • Initiate purchasing action for spare parts, which fall below the established minimum level using SAP reports & features.
    • Review outstanding purchase requests on a weekly basis and initiate expedition action when and if required.
    • Assist in the month end accrual process.
    • Ensure that all routine transactions relating to material receipt, issues, both debit & credit and the cycle count process are correctly recorded.
    • Maintain sufficient inventory levels at site to service customers’ needs
    • Coordinate safety issues and investigate incidents with safety department. Ensure environmental compliance, rehabilitation and meeting permit obligations.
    • Other duties as assigned.



    Required Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

    Required Work Experience:

    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience with mechanical equipment installation, repair and maintenance, as well as diagnosis and troubleshooting.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience

    Travel Requirements:  Local travel throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia, required.

    Computer and Software Skills: Basic PC skills using Microsoft Office Application. Prior SAP experience helpful, but not required.



    • Good communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with good negotiation, planning, scheduling and people management ability.
    • Ability to identify production problems, and the experience to solve those problems.
    • Ability to motive department personnel to meet production goals, while maintaining the integrity of the safety program.
    • Good working knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulic systems, water systems, pumps, motors, conveyors and air systems.
    • Must be a decision-maker that constantly incorporates common business sense into the decision-making process.
    • Material handling knowledge is essential

    • Creativity in approaches used to develop and direct short- and long-range planning and development programs.

    Required Language: Ability to read, write and speak English. Bilingual preferred.

    Scope: Oversight for all Maryland and District of Columbia mobile equipment maintenance.
