  • Overview

    The Safety and Compliance Officer is responsible for executing initiatives designed to improve the safety and quality of the fleet. This position will support and contribute to safety department processes that will lead to a reduction in the frequency and severity of incidents. Finally, this position will assist developing corrective action plans to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the fleet.

    Responsibilities

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Ensure local and regional DOT compliance, including DOT files and reporting.
    • Conceive, develop and implement programs or initiatives to promote a positive safety culture, inclusive of all employees.
    • Develop, implement and manage safety training and facility audit program.
    • Conduct safety investigations as directed including: Conducting post-incident investigations, reporting findings and making recommendations.
    • Develop and implement field training that supports quality initiatives.

    RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

    • This position interacts daily with the Fleet Operations Manager, as well as mechanics, drivers, and laborers.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, clients, etc.) Must be able to write a formal report and be capable of articulating key points.
    • Must be knowledgeable of DOT requirements.
    • Candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to adapt to changes in priorities.
    • The candidate must be extremely organized and have the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
    • The candidate must be resourceful and capable of independently thinking and researching topics.
    • The candidate must demonstrate leadership qualities.
    • The candidate must possess and demonstrate exceptional instructional skills, including public speaking, clear and concise articulation and other aspects of teaching and coaching skills.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

     

    Required Education:  High School Diploma .

    Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    Education in DOT Fleet management and/or safety administration preferred.

    Required Work Experience:   Experience in DOT Fleet management and/or safety administration.          

    Licenses Required: Must have a valid driver’s license

    Licenses Preferred:  Class A or B CDL

     

    Required Computer and Software Skills: Advanced computer skills: demonstrated proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Fleet Management Systems, and Email
