  • Overview

    PURPOSE

    This position will support the implementation of environmental permits and applicable regulations (including water and air) and the coordination of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).  This position provides operational support, prepares regular reports, and supports the day to day environmental and compliance operations.  This role performs as a member of the facility team and is expected to comply with all safety requirements of the site. 

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Ensure all required environmental monitoring and recordkeeping at the facility occurs.
    • Provide engineering solutions to environmental issues, including permitting, pollution prevention, environmental regulation compliance, training, inspections, reporting, auditing, and contractor compliance to assure continuous improvement and optimization.
    • Interact with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance concerns, implement compliance requirements, and act as a technical resource.
    • Function as an integral member of the ISO14001 support team to gain and/or maintain certification.
    • Identify issues that require specific research and study to address problems that limit the plants ability to meet permit limits or compliance targets. Make recommendations for corrective actions.
    • Perform statistical analysis, prepare reports, maintain appropriate compliance records, and file required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines.
    • Follow up on actions implemented to correct or improve situations, especially when programs involve testing, new materials, or process modifications.
    • Provide training to plant personnel on key environmental issues, requirements and compliance.
    • Assist on plant specific or company specific environmental issues as needed or requested.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    • Works closely with their peers in the Environmental organization and with the work team of the assigned facility

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Required Education:  Bachelor or Undergraduate Degree

    Field of Study Preferred:  Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Technical field

    Required Work Experience:  3 years related experience

    Required Computer and Software Skills:  Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    Travel Requirements:  10% - 25% depending on need/assigned projects

    • Proven technical and professional knowledge and expertise
    • High initiative and able to work with minimal supervision
    • Strong problem solving skills with attention to detail
    • Able to work collaboratively with Engineering, Maintenance, Plant Staff and various business disciplines.
    • Knowledge of air permitting, water management, solid waste management, regulatory requirements, environmental monitoring systems, and state environmental rules and regulations highly desirable.
