  • Overview

    PURPOSE

    The Dispatcher II will be located at the Greenbelt, MD location.  This position is primarily responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of ready mix concrete to government, commercial and residential customers.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Schedules orders to fully utilize the fleet, while balancing on-time delivery standards.
    • Takes into account DOT hours of service, customer requirements regarding time spacing of deliveries, and driving distance, and makes decisions regarding the most effective schedule to accomplish goals.
    • Provides directions to Drivers, and maintains communication with Drivers on active orders until the orders are successfully fulfilled.
    • Closely monitors customer and driver issues throughout the day and notifies Plant Management.
    • Works with Customers to resolve issues, and elevates them to the Distribution Manager and/or Plant Management if required.
    • Ensures plant efficiencies by gathering accurate totals from Customers and Plant Management, and transferring work between plants, in order to close plants servicing the same areas.
    • Identifies slow periods of the day and works with Plant Management to place Drivers on lunch breaks, or have them work on the plant between loads.
    • Utilizes Driver will calls on weather affected and/or low volume days to ensure Drivers are brought in only when work is available.

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    Interfaces regularly with Plant Management, Drivers and Customers

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Required Education:  High School diploma/GED

    Required Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience working dispatching trucks, preferably in a building materials, manufacturing or industrial environment.

    Travel Requirements:  May be asked to travel to D.C. or Virginia to support other call centers as customer needs demand, but infrequently.

    Computer and Software SkillsMastery of computer systems including onboard truck radios, onboard truck GPS, order tracking systems, driver scheduling systems, e-mail, Word and Excel.

    Required Language: Ability to read, write and speak English. Bilingual preferred.
