  • Overview

    The Industrial Hygienist Coordinator (IHC) will work under the direction of the H&S Head of US Cement and contribute as part of the US Health & Safety Department in support of the company's Health and Safety Management System (HSMS). The IHC will apply the principles of industrial hygiene and effectively support the H&S organization and Operations in meeting the requirements of our HSMS, with the goal of minimizing risk to LafargeHolcim and maintaining compliance with regulatory and LafargeHolcim group standards. The IHC will provide exceptional customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers, as well as be an advocate for all matters related to occupational health and industrial hygiene within the company.



    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Assists the H&S Head with the development of a comprehensive exposure assessment strategy for US operations in line with the Group Occupational Health Roadmap.
    • Collaborates with site operations leadership and H&S staff to schedule and conduct qualitative and quantitative industrial hygiene surveys at Lafargeholcim sites.
    • Utilizes accepted industrial hygiene practice, equipment, and analytical methods to collect exposure monitoring data for both physical and chemical hazards at Lafargeholcim sites.
    • Completes appropriate documentation (field notes, calibration records, laboratory submittal forms, and reports) related to industrial hygiene surveys.
    • Maintains IH equipment, accessories, and ancillary supplies necessary for conducting industrial hygiene surveys.
    • Responds to specific occupational health and industrial hygiene issues that arise from various stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels within the organization regarding industrial hygiene and occupational health and the risks that are potentially present at LafargeHolcim sites.
    • Supports the utilization of OH/IH-related database applications and provide training to H&S staff on the functionality of these applications.
    • Development of custom reporting to present statistical information and key performance indicators related to occupational health and industrial hygiene for various stakeholders (H&S team, line managers, US EXCO, Group).
    • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by H&S Head US.
    • As part of his development in other areas of Safety he will hold the roll of H&S Coordinator, supporting the Terminal Managers and Terminal Managers in the implementation of their safety action plans as well on any incident that may require investigation and support.
    • Plan, schedule and conduct both qualitative and quantitative IH surveys for sites across all LafargeHolcim US cement in accordance with expectations established by HSMS.
    • Provide detailed, concise, and accurate IH survey reports and associated documentation to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
      Timely and effective follow up on requests for expertise and service from H&S staff and operations.
    • Support the development of IH/OH KPI reporting.
    • Support the terminal managers of his jurisdiction in the implementation of nationwide H&S programs.


    • Collaborate with the H&S Head US Cement, US ACM (Aggregate Construction Materials) and the H&S Coordinators to plan and execute Occupational Health strategy for LafargeHolcim US Cement.
    • Work with H&S staff as well as operations personnel to schedule and conduct industrial hygiene surveys either done directly by him or with the use of third parties.
    • Interact with site management and employees to collect IH exposure monitoring data.
    • Work with other internal (risk management, finance, and HR, Group Head of Health) and external resources (laboratories, consultants, vendors, and contractors) to complete tasks as necessary.
    • Interface as a member of the US H&S Network.



    Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree
    Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree
    Field of Study Preferred: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related
    science or AA/AS degree


    Required Work Experience: 2-4 years of related experience that may include internship experience.

    • Travel Requirements: 50%
    • Experience with industrial hygiene equipment and conducting IH surveys is preferred.
    • Required Computer and Software Skills: Proficient with Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office programs: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Visio, Project. Database experience preferred.

    • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
