  • Overview

    Project Manager – Automation Upgrade

    Alpena Michigan Cement Plant 

     

    PURPOSE

    This position will be responsible for managing a project to replace the automation process control system at the LafargeHolcim Alpena, Michigan cement plant – a large and complex cement manufacturing plant with a crushing plant, 2 raw grinding systems, 5 kilns, 5 cement mills, 5 steam turbines for electrical energy generation, and truck, rail and vessel loading systems.

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Managing and reporting on projects
    • Project financials – budget, commitments, forecasting and cash flow
    • Completing and updating the Project schedule for design, testing and implementation
    • Completing technical review of scope, including preparation of functional descriptions, review of legacy programming, Factory Acceptance testing 

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS

    • LafargeHolcim - Work closely with the Project client – the plant manager – to coordinate Project activities with the operating cement plant
    • Automation system OEM and Integrator - Manage third party vendors for hardware and software deliveries on schedule and budget
    • LafargeHolcim Cement Industrial Performance - Ensure new automation system meets Group design criteria and technical requirements

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Required Education:  Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree and 2 years of equivalent experience. Degree in Electrical or Automation Engineering or other related engineering degree

    Additional Education Preferred: Master's/Graduate Degree

    Required Work Experience:   2 years relevant work experience with industrial process control systems, in large project management.  Experience with cement manufacturing plants desired.

    Travel Requirements:  25% (estimated)
