  • Overview


    Work with other members of the team to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the plant in order to maximize operational efficiency in an environment of continuous improvement; to provide timely and accurate process control information, to ensure that all testing equipment is operating properly, and to certify that the completed product meets intended specifications at both East and South Chicago.  Also, responsible for managing environmental programs at both sites with assistance from supervisors. 



    • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.
    • Have a thorough understanding of the chemistry of raw materials and products to understand how elements and chemical changes will affect the production process.
    • Possess analytical and process control testing equipment knowledge and operating expertise.
    • Possess the skills and ability to troubleshoot test equipment.
    • Understand environmental requirements and reporting.


    • Reports to the Production & Quality Coordinator
    • Works with Area Environmental Manager
    • Works with Area Quality Manager
    • Works closely with Production & Distribution Supervisors
    • Works with Sales Team for technical information and sample requests



    Required Education:  Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years equivalent experience with a High School Diploma

    Field of Study Preferred:  Chemistry/Chemical Engineering

    Required Computer and Software Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office.  Experience with Process/Engineering software helpful (ASPEN,CAD).

    Travel Requirements:  Up to 10%. Individual will travel between the South Chicago, IL Grinding Facility and the East Chicago, IN Slag Plant on a regular basis.

    • Time and self-management skills, including being self-directed, effective realization of current priorities associated with answering customer calls, scheduling callbacks while being able to re-prioritize as requested.
    • Records, analyzes, certifies and prepares summaries of findings. Maintains records of test results using various databases.
    • Assists with customer service issues as required. Troubleshoots to determine reason for problem or complaint.
    • Strong sense of teamwork.
    • Collects samples to help with sales and customer relations.
    • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
    • Help new employees understand quality and environmental responsibilities.
