  • Overview

    PURPOSE

    To develop a health and safety strategy, provide strategic leadership and direction to senior management for effective health & safety execution.  This is achieved by establishing senior management accountabilities and responsibilities including defined physical work environment conditions, providing an effective Safety Management Systems and the protecting the health and well-being of employees, contractors, sub-contractors and visitors.

     

    Lead a team of OH&S Managers, Subject Specialists and Coordinators that provide advice and support to line management throughout ready-mix, aggregates, asphalt and contracting. Continuously monitor and improve safety performance by ensuring compliance and maintenance of US and LafargeHolcim H&S related directives. Drive adoption and standardization of best practice in OH&S in collaboration with operational staff. 

    Responsibilities

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Comply with LafargeHolcim directives (Standards, FPEs, Contractor Management) and improve on performance metrics measured by LafargeHolcim targets. Record, maintain and report Organization Health & Safety (OH&S) statistics accurately and completely
    • Engage with top management to build a company OH&S strategy and validate plans which senior management are required to implement.
    • Lead a team of OH&S Functional experts to provide advice and support to the business.
    • Act as a subject matter expert on OH&S activities and promote best practice.
    • Represent company at National Industry Organizations and Governmental Meetings (RPF, NSSGA, NRMCA, FMCSA, MSHA, OSHA)
    • Develop and Ensure H&S specific training standards are met.
    • Implement effective H&S system for communication, incident management & risk control.
    • Ensure facilities are in compliance with federal and state H&S requirements (MSHA, OSHA)
    • Provide H&S guidance and approval on Capital projects as well as major  customer projects
    • The Head H&S ACM will have 6-8 direct reports that with their teams collectively provide support to the 7 Regional Businesses. The Group also continuously improves the H&S Management System and the H&S Audit process.
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER JOBS:

    VP, GM’s ACM, Head of Health and Safety Cement, Cement Executive Committee, HR, Finance, Environmental, Business Performance.   Share best practices with North American Region team and Cement Colleagues.

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    Required Education:  Bachelor’s/University Degree

    Additional Education Preferred: Master’s/Graduate Degree

    Required Work Experience:  10-15 years of experience in a similar leadership position

    Travel Requirements:  50-70%

    Computer and Software Skills:   Microsoft packages, Google, SAP

    • Sound knowledge of aggregate or large industrial processes and products
    • Area Manager / GM level experience in a OH&S or Operational Role
    • Strategic, Budgetary and Financial knowledge

    • Exceptional communications and engagement skills with the ability to positively influence senior managers in a challenging and fast paced environment
    • Ability to manage changing priorities

      Execute and monitor all respective internal controls, ensuring efficient/effective activities that support organizational objectives, while adhering to applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures
